Got a junk removal appointment coming up? Let’s make this process as smooth as possible. At Always Recovering Junk, we believe in keeping things simple and transparent. Here’s your no-nonsense guide to preparing for your junk removal day.

1. Know What You Want Gone

This seems like a simple one, but once your appointment is booked for the items you had in mind, you’ll probably start looking around your house and property wondering what else you can get rid of. Here are a few ways to make the most of your appointment as your chance to simplify!

  • Walk through your space and make a clear list
  • Take photos of larger items if you’re getting an estimate
  • If you have a lot of items, mark them clearly (a simple “JUNK” sticky note works great)

2. Clear the Path

We give you an upfront price with no surprises, but a clear path still means a smoother removal for everyone. Here’s how to prep:

  • Make sure we can easily access your items
  • Move cars from the driveway if needed
  • Clear a walking path to the items
  • Prop open any gates or doors we’ll need to use

3. Sort Your Stuff (Optional)

Look, we know you’re busy – that’s probably why you called us in the first place! While sorting isn’t required (we’re happy to handle it all), here are some quick tips if you want to get organized before we arrive:

  • Group similar items together
  • Separate hazardous materials (we can’t take these)
  • Set aside donation-worthy items

4. Know What We Can’t Take

We haul away almost anything, but there are a few items that are off-limits by law (and for everyone’s safety). Before we arrive, check for these no-go items:

  • Hazardous materials
  • Paint and chemicals
  • Tires
  • Propane tanks
  • Car batteries

Not sure about an item? Give us a call – we’re always straight with you.

5. Plan Your Schedule

  • We’ll give you a specific time window and show up when we say we will
  • Make sure someone’s available to show us what needs to go, unless we’ve made prior arrangements.
  • Have payment ready – we accept cash, checks, and many online payment apps
  • Allow enough time in your schedule for the complete removal

Bonus Tips for Our Neighbors:

  • Weather matters: If it’s going to rain, cover any items you’ve set outdoors to preserve them for donation, if applicable.
  • Consider your neighbors: think your neighbor might like to get in on the pickup? Let them know we’ll be in the neighborhood!
  • Have an HOA? Check any special requirements for junk removal
  • Getting ready to sell? Let your realtor know we’re coming

FAQ

Q: How long does junk removal usually take?

A: It all depends on how many items you have. It could take anywhere from minutes for a single bulky item, to a several hours for an estate cleanout project, to several days for a hoarding cleanout, but we’ll give you a better estimate when you book.

Q: Do I need to be home during the removal?

A: That depends on you! For full service junk removal where you let us do the heavy lifting, it’s best to be present to point out what needs to go. On the other hand, some of our clients are happy to tell us what they want removed and trust us to get the job done without them home. And you’re always welcome, though never required, to leave your items at the curb for us to pick up if that’s what you prefer.

Q: What’s your service area in Maryland?

A: We serve Frederick and surrounding areas within a 35-mile radius. That includes all of Frederick county, plus Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, and Washington Counties.
